SHOBANA JEYASINGH DANCE
‘Configurations’ is the result of close work between the choreographer Shobana Jeyasingh and composer Michael Nyman whose commissioned string quartet was based on South Indian (Bharata Natyam) rhythmic patterns. The work launched the dance company in 1988 and was met with great enthusiasm.

The Benyounes Quartet toured Configurations in 2012 for Classic Cut and 2013 for Strange Blooms with Shobana Jeyasingh Dance.
The work is full of vibrant energy and rhythmic intricacy between a quartet of dancers and the string quartet. The first performance was at British Dance Edition and was featured on BBC Radio 3 ‘In Tune’.
